· Exploring Amsterdam: Our ultimate guide to make the most of it ·

Amsterdam is absolutely one of the most beautiful cities of Europe. Its canals, its views, its romantic and relaxing atmosphere mixed into art and history make this city an absolute must visit. Today I’d like to tell about some of the best things to keep in mind in order to really see and do everything and fully immerse yourself into the local cultural background and, of course, have some fun!  Let’s get started!

Amsterdam is the capital cityof the Netherlands. The seat of government is The Hague. Amsterdam has a population of 851,373 within the city proper, 1,351,587 in the urban area, and 2,410,960 in the Amsterdam metropolitan area. The city is located in the province of North Holland in the west of the country.

Amsterdam’s name derives from Amstelredamme, indicative of the city’s origin around a dam in the river Amstel. Originating as a small fishing village in the late 12th century, Amsterdam became one of the most important ports in the world during the Dutch Golden Age (17th century), a result of its innovative developments in trade. During that time, the city was the leading centre for finance and diamonds. In the 19th and 20th centuries the city expanded, and many new neighborhoods and suburbs were planned and built. The 17th-century canals of Amsterdam and the 19–20th century Defence Line of Amsterdam are on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Best time to go

Amsterdam is beautiful and unique in every season of the year. We highly recommend you to choose according to the type of trip you want to live. Keep in mind that high season starts in March and that Summer could be cold and made up of a mixed rainy weather. Fall would be the perfect time to find the best and most convenient deals and to enjoy the city away from the massive touristic flows of the summer months!

Where to stay

When it comes to finding the best accommodation you should know that Amsterdam is not so cheap when it comes to hotels. But you don’t have to panic as, fortunately, there are several different options to find a convenient solution for your trip in this beautiful city. First of all, consider the position and look for something just outside the city center (where, of course, hotel rooms are more expensive) but well-connected such as Amsterdam Zuid-Oost. If you travel with friends and you want to live an adventure you should consider to book for an hostel, a funny way to meet new people and live your travel experience in a unique different way.

Urban Lodge Hotel

Urban Lodge Hotel brings a mixture of Urban Design and Country Style Lodge to Amsterdam´s Sloterdijk Station area. Combining elements of inviting chic Dutch design and coziness they have created a unique and warm ambience that makes you feel at ease.

The décor mixes aspects of city and country life using lots of woods and neutral colors and touches of Classic Delft Blue, resulting in a new style boutique hotel.

Urban Lodge hotel focuses on taking care of the present-day traveller by offering spacious rooms including free wifi, and personal attention to our guests.

The beds are comfortable, the rooms spacious and nicely decorated. Service is good and staff were helpful.

Urban Lodge is a place for road warriors and urban cowboys craving for an authentic local experience.

There’s so much to do outdoors in Amsterdam that you’re rarely in the hotel. This is a good enough spot as its close to the train station so easy to get to airport and city centre.

Where to shop

Kalverstraat and Leidsestraat are the best place if you want to have a great shopping session. If you want to buy something more typically local you should go to the Flower Market or stroll at the markets you will find in the nearby neighborhood for some souvenir to remember and to bring home something authentic.

Nightlife in Amsterdam could be exactly how you want it to be. If you want to have some relaxing and romantic experience you could book for a canal cruise or have a dinner in one of the fanciest restaurant at Nieuwmarkt but, if you want to live the wild young nightlife you just cannot miss a Red Light District Tour, the most alternative and controversial area of the city with tons of clubs and entertainments.
