I have followed the Cannes Film Festival closely for years now, the celebrities, the fashion, the glitz and glam, but somehow it has never really made it onto my bucket list. The Grand Prix in Monte Carlo, Monaco however have always been on my bucket list. One of the most prestigious and most celebrated film festivals, is revered as the largest international and most each year. Being part of that action is a draw for those in the industry and those who are not. Attending the 11 day film festival in May each year is high on many peoples bucket list. Top reasons are the elite feeling of the location on the French Riviera and being among the elite in the film industry.
WHERE TO STAY
LUXURY – Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic Cannes
This was my first stop after a short trip from Nice airport to Cannes. The first thing I felt when I stepped into the lobby of this extravagantly beautiful hotel was, really broke. During the Cannes Film festival weekend this is the hotel of choice for the really rich and really famous.
Set down your suitcases in the splendid décor of the Hotel Le Majestic’s lobby. Be overcome with a sensation of well-being. The Mediterranean Sea embraces the terraces of the rooms. Share delightful family moments and let the children experience their own adventures.
Enjoy sport and lazing on the private beach, as well as the Projection room and Clefs d’Or Concierge, before relaxing at the Spa Diane Barrière. Inject some magic into your evenings and experience a star-studded stay.
BUDGET – Hôtel Barrière Le Gray d’Albion Cannes
Situated right next door and a sister hotel to the Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic Cannes, the Hotel Barrière Le Gray d’Albion Cannes gives you a similar experience for a fraction of the price! This is where I stayed for the rest of my stay in Cannes.
With bouquets of red roses and an intimate atmosphere, Hotel Le Gray d’Albion shrouds its guests in delicate refinement. The transparent Starck furniture and the soft king size bed will transport you to a delightful other world. Waterskiing, summer nights whiled away on a private beach, and colourful cocktails shape an exhilarating trip. Wonderment on La Croisette. Thrills at the casino. Luxury boutiques. A whirlwind of pleasures right outside your hotel room door.
Hotel InterContinental Carlton Cannes
One of the best luxury hotels on the French Riviera, this hotel is perfectly located on the famous La Croisette Boulevard, close to the Cannes Palais des Festivals and the luxury shops, with absolutely stunning views of the Bay of Cannes. Abuzz with celebrities and activities, this is one of the best addresses during the Cannes Film Festival.
WHAT TO DO
Cannes Film Festival
I went to Cannes on the weekend of the Cannes Film Festival – the world’s most beautiful people descend on the French Riviera around this time as one gets to see and do so much and meet so many beautiful people from all corners of the world.
If you do not like crowds and attention, this is not where you want to be. We were invited to attend a red carpet event and it was so packed we couldn’t get to the entrance on time and we went out for lunch instead.
As I was walking down the street on my way to a lunch date, this happened. For a minute, I got a sense of what it was like to be hounded by the paparazzi. I do love attention, but this felt a bit overwhelming and invasive. Plus I never got to see the pics! But its all part of setting the scene and creating the mood for the red carpet events in the precinct.
WHERE TO EAT
Armani / Caffē
Chic city cafe next to Giorgio Armani. Go there for the ambience and people watching. Oh and they serve the best coffee in all of Cannes.
Located on the Boulevard de La Croisette, just a few minutes from the Palais des Festivals, right in between the Carlton and Majestic hotels. The Bâoli Beach welcomes a clientele looking for refined services and a well-kept service. This beautiful space combines quality catering and idleness and makes for the perfect place to relax and enjoy a cocktail and fresh seafood cuisine. You can bask in the sun on the deck atop the private beach. Bâoli Beach is simply a must do on the Côte d’Azur.
